Arts Council Annual Membership Meeting to feature Simple Gifts

(2/13) The multitalented Linda Littleton and Karen Hirshon, together the global music phenom known as Simple Gifts, will share their talents as featured presenters for the Adams County Arts Council's annual membership meeting Tuesday, March 3 at 7 p.m. at the Gettysburg Lutheran Theological Seminary Refectory, Seminary Ridge. Along with Simple Gifts, the ACAC annual meeting will include Applause and Leadership awards, an illustrated overview of 2008 from Executive Director Chris Glatfelter, and an array of scrumptious snacks served in the cozy atmosphere of the Refectory.

The Littleton-Hirshon duo brings decades of classical training and folk experience to stages across the globe, and they switch easily from violins to concertina, mandolin and banjolin to recorders, psalteries, dulcimers, baritone fiddle, piano, and percussion. They appeared at the Adams County Heritage Festival and led a community jam session, then visited elementary schools in their fall residency. In March and April, they return for programs presented by the Arts Council at a host of schools and colleges, and with Music, Gettysburg! for an April 24 concert at the Seminary Chapel. The Simple Gifts residency is funded through the generous support of Liberty Mountain Resort, Peter and Gail Hull, Dr. Pepper Snapple Group and Pennsylvania Performing Arts on Tour, a program developed and funded by the Heinz Endowments, the William Penn Foundation, the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, a state agency, and The Pew Charitable Trusts, and administered by the MidAtlantic Arts Foundation.

The ACAC Board will unveil a summary of its new strategic plan, present Leadership in the Arts Award to the Adams County Commissioners for their strong continuing support. Applause Awards are going to Don Ivey for his computer and tech support, Melissa Sandoe for her office assistance, and Bert Danielson, for installing a new LAN network in our office and for always being ready to shoot pictures at Arts Council events.

Following the hour-long meeting, members will enjoy a wine and cheese reception. The public as well as ACAC members are invited to attend. To ensure adequate seating and food, please RSVP by February 27 to the ACAC office by emailing aa@adamsarts.org or calling Dianne Lorden at 334-5006.
