'Pumpkin people’ invade Taneytown

(10/6) A sudden appearance and proliferation of pumpkin-headed entities around Taneytown doesn’t mean the mother gourd has landed near town and invasion is imminent.

It simply means the Taneytown Pumpkin People competition has begun.

Contestants participating in the month-long competition can begin displaying their Pumpkin People entries around town on October 1, although applications to display can be submitted through much of October if postmarked no later than October 21.

Application can be had at City Hall.

Entries must be "family friendly" and non-controversial, physically located to as to be viewable by the public, and weather-proofed to withstand the duration of the competition.

Photos and entries will be displayed at the Taneytown "Harvest Fest 2012" on October 20 at Memorial Park.

Judging of the entries will take place during the week of October 30.  The public can vote for their favorites, and votes can be submitted at City Office, or deposited in one of the voting boxes located around town.

Taneytown will be holding their annual Harvest Fest 2012 on October 20 in Memorial Park from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., rain or shine.

The event will feature music and children's activities, food, vendors, Barnyard Bingo, and other activities.  The town will be collecting non-perishables and toiletries for Taneytown Caring and Sharing.
