(6/7) Thurmont police on Tuesday arrested Dean F. Aubol III, 28, of Blue Ridge Avenue in Thurmont, on charges of theft of a motor vehicle, unlawful taking of a motor vehicle and driving on a suspended license.

A Thurmont Police Department press release gave the following account of the incident.

Aubol was wanted by police for allegedly stealing a vehicle. Police were tipped off to his location at 11:10 a.m., Tuesday, and subsequently surrounded a house on Sunny Court on the eastern end of town, near Thurmont Elementary School.

Officers communicated with Aubol through a woman who lived in the house.

‘‘He wouldn’t come to the phone," Thurmont Police Chief Greg Eyler said Wednesday. ‘‘She would answer the phone to talk to the negotiator."

Police believed that Aubol would resist, Eyler said, but Aubol surrendered to police at 12:56 p.m., and no weapons were found at the scene.

The female subject was not charged, and she was not held hostage by Aubol, Eyler said.

‘‘She didn’t commit any crimes," Eyler said. ‘‘We just know that they were friends."

Police recovered a vehicle from Miami, Fla. at the residence, which they believe Aubol stole.

Thurmont police were looking for Aubol after recovering a vehicle several weeks ago that they believe Aubol stole.

‘‘None of them were damaged," Eyler said, adding that police did not know Aubol’s whereabouts.

Aubol is being held at the Frederick County Adult Detention Center on a $35,000 bond.
