‘‘I just want to take a step back for a couple years," Smith said Thursday. ‘‘I have other things I do."
Smith has been a commissioner in Woodsboro since 1999, he said.
Smith, an accountant, volunteers as an assistant coach for distance runners in Walkersville High School’s track programs. He said he is also
an avid horseback rider.
‘‘We ride on back roads" in the Thurmont area, he said, adding that he is going to continue to live in Woodsboro.
‘‘I’ve been here since 1976, and I don’t plan on moving."
Smith’s seat and the seat of Commissioner Ken Morgan are up for grabs in the town’s May 12 election.
Citizens who are registered voters and who have lived in Woodsboro for 60 days — since March 14 — are eligible to vote. The election is being

Voters will elect two commissioners from three candidates. Morgan, David Eaves, and Joel Rensberger are running for office.
