Town Manager's Report
May 2008

Streets:

  • Staff  installed two additional Welcome To Emmitsburg signs on Seton Avenue

  • Staff has repaired a number of street lights

  • Staff installed a speed-bump on West North Avenue

  • Staff cleaned debris from the bed of Willow Rill at the Creamery Road culvert

Water:

  • Rainbow Lake is now flowing over the spillway and our five wells appear to have recovered

  • The roughing filters are now being backwashed twice per day and the DE filters are being done once per week

  • Staff has applied copper sulfate to Rainbow Lake

    Water production and consumption.  We produced and purchased an average of 340,628 gpd.  We consumed an average of 293,291 gpd   

    • The difference is "Backwash Water" ...(13.%).   We purchased 320,180 gals. of water from MSM this month.

    • 45.0% of this water came from wells 

    •   3.0% of this water came from Mt. St. Mary's

    • 52.0%  of this water came from Rainbow Lake 

Wastewater:

  • Staff is continuing to operate the overland flow treatment system

  • We received about 6.4 inches of precipitation this month (the average is 4.5. inches)

    • We have a surplus of 7.5" of  precipitation over the last six months.  The average precipitation for the period from Dec 1 thru May 31 is 22.2" and we have received 29.7" for that period. 

  • Wastewater Treatment:

    • We treated an average of 672,000 gpd (consumed 293,291 gpd) which means that 56.4% of the wastewater treated this month was "wild water".   

    • We experienced one spill of untreated sewerage during the month of May        (5-11-08     MH-98     12,600 gals)

  • We exceed the plant's design capacity on 5 days during the month of May    05-11  2,348,000 gpd      05-12   2,934,000 gpd,   05-13  1,142,000 gpd  

  • 05-16  936,000 gpd,        05-20   830,000 gpd    

Trash: 

  • Trash pickup will remain Monday and Thursday for the Month of June, 2008, 

Parks:

  • Staff made all standard checks and emptied trash cans

  • Staff conditioned the volleyball court and Babe Ruth ballfield in Community Park

  • Staff placed additional picnic tables in the pavilion at the swimming pool

  • Staff performed standard mowing and trimming

Meetings Attended:

  • 05/15 meeting with Fox & Assoc and Dan Reaver to discuss Sanitary Sewer R/W

  • 05/15 BOCC & Municipalities meeting

  • 05/19 meeting with Ms. Briggs to discuss rental of 140 S. Seton Avenue

  • 05/21 meeting with Town attorney to discuss an annexation of a small piece of l        and along Irishtown Road

  • 05/21 Frederick Co. Planning Commission meeting related to water & sewer   classification change for Reaver property east of Rt. 15

  • 05/22 Frederick Co./ MML POS funding meeting

  • 05/23 meeting with Fox & Assoc related to Irishtown Rd. annexation

  • 05/30 Meeting with HR consultant and staff
