Sunday of Lent
When a loved one dies, we could all wish
that Jesus would be around to raise them
again to life just as he raised Lazarus from
the tomb. But today’s Gospel is not about
Jesus granting wishes like some magical
genie. In the course of his conversations
with Martha and Mary, Jesus is actually
revealing to his followers core truths about
the resurrection. Because those who believe
in him will never die, the resurrection is
more than just walking around on this earth.
It is a completely new kind of life—a life

reminder on the Church's fasting and
abstinence teachings:
Ash Wednesday and Good Friday are
obligatory days of universal fast and
abstinence. Fasting is obligatory for all
who have completed their 18th year and have
not yet reached their 60th year. Fasting
allows a person to eat one full meal. Two
smaller meals may be taken, not to equal one
full meal. Abstinence (from meat) is
obligatory for all who have reached their
14th year.
If possible, the fast on Good Friday is
continued until the Easter Vigil (on Holy
Saturday night) as the "paschal fast" to
honor the suffering and death of the Lord
Jesus, and to prepare ourselves to share
more fully and to celebrate more readily his
Resurrection.
Fridays in Lent are obligatory days of
complete abstinence (from meat) for all who
have completed their 14th year.
Catholics Returning Home
Have you been away from the Church for a
while? Have you ever thought about
returning? If so, we would like to welcome
you back to St. Joseph’s Parish. We have a
special ministry for people just like you
who have been away from the Church. Please
join us for a six-week series that begins on
Tuesday, April 26 from 7:00 P.M. to 8:30
P.M. in the Parish Hall. We would like to
address your questions and make you feel at
home once more in the Catholic Church. For

WALKING STATIONS OF THE CROSS
St Katherine Drexel Parish invites you to
the walking of the Stations of the Cross
starting at William Talley Recreation Center

Special Needs Homes
Sister Sue Mosteller, International Speaker
from Toronto will share her experiences with
residential homes for individuals with
developmental disabilities on Saturday,
April 16th from 10am -Noon at Mount St.
Mary’s University, Emmitsburg, MD in the
Patriot Hall/Keeler Dining Room. Sister Sue
Mosteller will speak about the communities
of L’Arche.
L’’Arche provides caring homes where persons
with disabilities live with comfort,
spirituality and respect. Sister Sue also
works at the Henri Nouwen Library in Canada.
The public is invited to attend.
EASTER BASKETS
We still have several left to fill. Please
call the rectory at 301-447-2326 to receive
a family code number to ensure that your
baskets will go to the families assigned to
our church. All Candy must be in individual
wrappers, No loose candy can be accepted.
Monetary donations may be dropped off at the
rectory or placed in the collection basket
in an envelope marked Easter Food Collection
by April 10th.
Please drop off your baskets of food and
candy directly to Seton Center Outreach
Program between 9:30am and 11:30am on
Tuesday, April 19th using the driveway by
the Outreach Office just beyond the
dumpster. You may pull your car up to the
ramp where someone will help you unload. It
is very important to abide by this time
frame since the families were already
notified when to pick up their baskets.

CLEANING FOR A
REASON
If you know any woman currently undergoing
chemotherapy, there is a cleaning service
that provides FREE housecleaning once per
month for 4 months while she is in
treatment. All she has to do is sign up and
have her doctor fax a note confirming the
treatment. Cleaning for a Reason will
have a participating maid service in her zip
code area arrange for the service. This
organization serves the entire USA and
currently has 547 partners to help these
women. It's our job to pass the word and let
them know that there are people out there
that care. Be a blessing to someone and pass

PROJECT RACHEL Hope & Healing After
Abortion
Project Rachel reaches out to those who are
wounded by abortion. Project Rachel offers a

with information that will help you to
grieve the loss of your unborn child and to
know God’s forgiveness.

FIRST FRIDAYS
The Pro-Life Committee invites all
parishioners to designate the first Friday
of each month as a day of prayer and
fasting/abstinence in reparation for sins
against life.

OF MARY
The mission of
the Legion of Mary is to advance the
personal sanctification of its members, to
spread devotion of the Blessed mother, and
to provide service to the parish through the
spiritual corporal works of mercy. There are
two groups for adults and one for children.

THE HOLY
NAME SOCIETY
Members of the Holy name society strive to
live as true disciples of Jesus by giving
good example by their words and their deeds.
By their example they try to help all people
show the proper respect to God’s Holy Name
and to practice Christian virtues. The
members are active members of our Parish and
have annual fundraisers to help the Parish
financially. I invite all men of the parish
to consider becoming a member of the Holy
Name Society
CHILDREN'S
PRAYER GROUP
All the children of the Parish are invited
to join us Tuesday afternoon at the rectory from
3:45-4:45 pm. We pray the Rosary and other
prayers in accordance with the request of
Our Lady of Fatima, parents are most
welcomed.
MARYLAND COUNCIL OF THE KNIGHTS OF
COLUMBUS
Each Year, the
Maryland Sate Council of the Knights of
Columbus awards several four year college
and Catholic high school scholarships to the
sons and daughters of the Knights of
Columbus members and to Catholic students in

EMPTIES 4 CASH
Don't throw away that empty cartridge! Bring
it to St. Joseph's rectory! Our church has
launched a fun-raising project,
Empties4Cash, with the help of a local
recycling company. Empty inkjet cartridges
can be recycled and remanufactured. Our
church will receive $2.00 for each cartridge
turned in. This will directly benefit
Religious Education supplies and Rosaries
for the Military.
You can help! Any cartridge with a print
head can be recycled, regardless of brand or
type. Do you have an HP, Lexmark, Xerox,
Compaq, Samsung, Kodak, Canon or Apple
printer? Bring in your empty cartridges (use
a Ziploc bag to avoid ink spills) to the
rectory. (Note: Epson cartridges can not be
recycled-they don't have a print head)
ANSWERS FOR THE AGING
Catholic Charities Answers for the Aging is
a free and confidential information and
referral service for older adults, their
families, friends and caregivers. Referral
counselors/specialists take the time to
listen to callers' questions and concerns,
helping to identify the specific type of
service (s) needed by providing appropriate
referrals and assistance in contacting the
provider, if needed. If you are feeling
overwhelmed at the prospect of trying to
find the right service among hundreds of
service providers, please call Answers for
