James L. Kemp

James L. Kemp, age 86, of Emmitsburg, Md., died Sunday, June 28, 2009, at Lorien Nursing and Rehabilitation in Taneytown, Md. He was born May 26, 1923 in Frederick, Md., the son of the late Ruth A. Kemp (Stup) and Charles L. Kemp.

He was predeceased by his wife Ruth M. Kemp (Eiker) in 1986.

He worked for 36 years as a butcher at A & P Grocers. After retirement he owned Jim’s Lock and Key. He was a member of the American Legion Post #121 and the VFW Post in Emmitsburg, Md. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and bowling. He was an honorary member of the Vigilant Hose Company #25 of Emmitsburg, Md. He served in the United States Army in WWII.

Surviving are two daughters, Beverly V. Kemp of Thurmont, Md., and Wanda and Ralph Boone of Frederick, Md.; and a sister Mary G. Norwood of Gettysburg. Also surviving are seven grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a son, James R. Diller.

Interment is in the Emmitsburg Memorial Cemetery.
